Chapter 5 of Part VII, Descendants of Reuben Harris

CHILDREN OF WOOTEN HARRIS AND SARAH JANE LACKS
(Child #5 of Reuben Harris and 1st wife)

Wooten Harris3 (Reuben2, Isaac1) was born in Greenville County, South Carolina in about 1801. He moved with his parents to Tennessee. He married a widow, Sarah Jane (Lacks) Brugh, who was born in Tennessee in about 1815; she was 35 years of age when the Nodaway County, Missouri 1850 census was taken. She had two daughters by her first husband: 1. Sarah Brugh, born in 1829; 2. Nancy Jane Brugh, born in 1831. Nancy Jane married twice - first on March 6, 1856, in Nodaway County, Missouri, to Rev. Theve Daniel Dillon of Holt County, Missouri, and she later married William Alexander Brown.

Wooten died before October 13, 1862 in Quitman, Nodaway County, Missouri, and apparently three of his children died at about the same time. In the probate records for his estate, there is a receipt dated May 17, 1865 listing four coffins and a doctor bill for treating himself (Wooten), and three of his children - William, Pauline, and Wooten.

Reuben Hickman Harris4 (Wooten3, Reuben2, Isaac1) was born September 11, 1837 in Jackson County, Tennessee. He married Elizabeth Edna Brown, daughter of William Alexander Brown and Sarah Ann Bannister, on March 6, 1856, in Nodaway County, Missouri. Elizabeth was born June 14, 1825 at Crossroads, Hardin County, Kentucky, and died December 7, 1915, in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. Reuben and Elizabeth were buried at Quitman, Nodaway County, Missouri.

JAMES S. HARRIS AND SARAH JANE POE
(Child #3 of Wooten Harris and Sarah Jane Lacks)

James S. Harris4 (Wooten3, Reuben2, Isaac1) was born March 6, 1843 in Nodaway County, Missouri, and died August 16, 1922 in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. He was buried in Excelsior Springs, Clay County, Missouri. He served in Civil War Company H 25th Missouri Infantry. James married Sarah Jane Poe, on June 11, 1863 at St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri. She was born December 23, 1841 in Kentucky, according to her death certificate which gives the name of her father as Ben Poe. Sarah died on December 9, 1911 at Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. James and Sarah were buried in Salem Cemetery, Excelsior Springs, Clay County, Missouri. Data for children is from Civil War Pension Papers and grandchildren are from family records of Mary Harris Black.

Benjamin Henry Harris5 (James S.4, Wooten3, Reuben2, Isaac1) was born June 1, 1872, and died August 10, 1939, at Inola Rogers County, Oklahoma. He was married four times. His first marriage was to Amy Robertson on April 6, 1892. He married his second wife, Effie Hellen Todd on February 9, 1901, in Wyandotte County, Kansas. She was the daughter of John Todd and Lovisa Jane Hessenflow, and was born February 27, 1855 in Missouri. Effie died on August 8, 1908. Benjamin married his third wife, Laura Buster, on February 25 1909. She was born July 20, 1892, and died February 15, 1917. His fourth wife was Ida Hedrick. Benjamin and his wives Effie and Ida were buried in Salem Cemetery, Excelsior Springs, Clay County, Missouri.
